27–28 April, Central River Region, The Gambia: The CRR Technical Working Group (TWG) — comprising GYIN Gambia Chapter, National Youth Council (NYC), and The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRSC) — carried out a series of impactful activities under the Rural Innovation & Skills Empowerment for Inclusive Communities (RISE CRR) Project.

Inspiring Students at Jarumeh Koto Senior Secondary School

The team hosted a dynamic counselling session with students, exploring local opportunities and challenging misconceptions about skill-based work and farming. Motivational talks, storytelling, and an open Q&A encouraged students to embrace both academic and practical skill paths, highlighting the importance of combining education with hands-on experience.

Strengthening Partnerships with Regional Leadership

As part of the project’s outreach, the TWG met with Honorable Ousman Bah, Governor of Central River Region (CRR), reaffirming their commitment to community presence even without external funding. Lessons from a recent study visit to Ziguinchor were shared, broadening knowledge and reinforcing determination to drive local change.

Supporting Entrepreneurs in Wassu

On 28th April, the team engaged with entrepreneurs in Wassu, introducing the Local Cohesion and Cooperation Approach (LCCA). Discussions emphasized innovation, community-driven solutions, and the TWG’s role in supporting local businesses to thrive.

These activities mark the pilot phase of the RISE CRR project, which demonstrates that meaningful community impact can be achieved by pooling resources and working collectively.

Project Goal: To reduce irregular migration and unemployment by equipping youth and returnees with inclusive, practical skills and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
