The Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia Chapter (GYIN Gambia Chapter) joined national stakeholders on 14 July 2026 at the Ocean Bay Hotel, Bakau, for the Validation Workshop of the Made in Gambia (MiG) Strategy and Action Plan 2027–2037. The event was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MoTIE) in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC).
Represented by Ms. Jainaba Njie, Program Officer, GYIN Gambia contributed to discussions alongside government officials, private sector leaders, development partners, and civil society organizations.
The workshop ensured that the revised MiG Strategy reflects the realities of Gambian industries and is endorsed by all key stakeholders.
The MiG Strategy, first introduced in 2021, was designed to position Gambian products and services as engines of economic growth, employment creation, and national pride. The new 2027–2037 plan builds on the 2022–2026 framework, with technical support from ITC and the European Union’s Youth Empowerment Project II, and aligns with ECOWAS Vision 2050 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Following a consultative meeting in September 2025 and subsequent technical committee reviews, the 14 July 2026 workshop represents a milestone in shaping a unified national brand.
The revised strategy focuses on:
- Legal and regulatory reform
- Business environment support
- Market access expansion
- Advocacy and branding
Priority sectors include agriculture, agro-processing, tourism, hospitality, and creative industries. The plan aims to create jobs, strengthen food security, reduce import dependency, and attract investment from both the diaspora and international partners.
Beyond its economic ambitions, the MiG Strategy seeks to instill pride in Gambian-made goods and strengthen national identity on the global stage. If successfully implemented, it could play a central role in The Gambia’s transformation agenda and support the country’s aspiration to achieve middle-income status by 2050.
