We are excited to share some remarkable news that reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering the youth of The Gambia. On Saturday, the 5th of August 2023, GYIN Gambia had the privilege of joining hands with the Gambian-German Centre, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to present material support to the deserving winners of the Rural Youth Awards.

This initiative is part of a larger project titled “Foster Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Returnees and Host Communities in Rural Areas.” We are proud to be the locally contracted Civil Society Organization (CSO) entrusted with the responsibility of implementing this project.

At the heart of this project are several key objectives that align with our mission to uplift rural youth and promote sustainable development:

1. The Provision of Agri-Food Value Chain related Programs: We understand the immense potential of agriculture in The Gambia, and this project aims to equip young Gambians with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the agri-food sector.

2. The Provision of Digital Literacy and Information Support Services through Incubation Hubs: In today’s digital age, access to digital resources and literacy is crucial. Our partnership with GIZ allows us to provide the necessary support to ensure our youth can harness the power of technology for their benefit.

3. The Provision of Business Advisory Services, Coaching, and Mentorship: Success often requires guidance and mentorship. Through this project, we are offering young entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn from experienced mentors, enabling them to make informed decisions and navigate the business world effectively.

4. The Provision of In-Kind Support: The highlight of the recent event was the presentation of material support to our rural youth award winners. Nine remarkable young individuals were awarded £1,000 (GMD 66,000) each, while two equally deserving winners received £500 (GMD 33,000) each. This support is not just financial; it’s a symbol of faith in the potential of our youth to create positive change.

This collaboration between GYIN Gambia, the Gambian-German Centre, BMZ, and GIZ represents a shared commitment to sustainable development and youth empowerment in The Gambia. Together, we aim to provide the tools, resources, and opportunities needed for our youth to thrive in agribusiness and entrepreneurship.

In addition to the material support presented at the event, an incredible EUR 10,000 worth of in-kind support was also provided to returnee and women winners of the Rural Youth Awards in 2023. This showcases the dedication of our partners in ensuring that opportunities for growth and development are accessible to all, regardless of gender or background.

We are grateful for the support of the Gambian-German Centre, BMZ, and GIZ, and we look forward to continuing our journey together towards a brighter and more prosperous future for the youth of The Gambia.
