Brusubi – April 20, 2026: GYIN Gambia had the pleasure of hosting three visiting student researchers from Roskilde University in Denmark—Sarah, Anna, and Leah—who are conducting their bachelor’s thesis on migration, return, and reintegration in The Gambia, with a particular focus on Assisted Voluntary Return and Assisted Voluntary Return (AVRR) programmes.

The meeting took the form of an in‑depth interview, where the researchers explored GYIN Gambia’s role in supporting returnees, the challenges they encounter, and the wider social and economic factors that shape reintegration. Discussions also highlighted the sustainability of AVRR programmes and potential ways to strengthen long‑term outcomes for returnees.

By engaging with academic researchers, GYIN Gambia contributes to building a deeper understanding of how reintegration is experienced on the ground. The interview provided an opportunity to share practical insights and shed light on the realities faced by Gambian returnees.

We value the researchers’ interest in our work and look forward to the findings of their study, which will enrich the growing body of knowledge on migration and reintegration in The Gambia.
