GYIN Gambia staff met with William Mendy of Refrigeration & Air Co Workshop, a young Gambian technician whose groundbreaking innovations have the potential to improve livelihoods at Tanji Fish Market and beyond.
Inspired by the hardworking women who sustain their families through fish trading, William has developed two pioneering solutions to address pressing community challenges:
- Cold fridge storage system — extends fish preservation, reduces post-harvest losses, and boosts women’s income.
- Cooling water dispenser for homes — provides households with affordable, accessible cooling technology.
William’s vision reflects the creativity and resilience of Gambian youth, demonstrating how homegrown solutions can drive sustainable development. His innovations not only tackle local challenges but also highlight the potential of youth-led entrepreneurship to shape The Gambia’s future.
Currently seeking funds to expand his project, William represents a new generation of innovators determined to build solutions that strengthen communities. GYIN Gambia stands firmly by his side, committed to amplifying his visibility, connecting him to opportunities, and supporting his journey within its means.
