The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter is delighted to announce its newest partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning in Canada to launch an exciting four-month project titled ‘Chilli Pepper 🌶 Value Chain (Production).’ This initiative is specifically designed to empower returnee migrants, women, and youth farmers across the country.
Scheduled to commence on Saturday, 17th February 2024, GYIN Gambia will conduct a comprehensive training session for 30 selected returnee migrants, women, and youth farmers. The training will take place in Jarra Soma, Lower River Region (LRR), and aims to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge related to chilli pepper production, from cultivation to marketing.
Through this project, GYIN Gambia and the Commonwealth of Learning aim to create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods, particularly for individuals who have returned to The Gambia and are seeking avenues for economic empowerment. By focusing on the chilli pepper value chain, the project seeks to harness the potential of agriculture as a means of income generation and community development.
The training session will cover various aspects of chilli pepper production, including land preparation, seed selection, planting techniques, pest and disease management, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and value addition. Participants will also receive guidance on market access, pricing strategies, and entrepreneurship skills to help them maximize their profits and succeed in the agribusiness sector.
GYIN Gambia is committed to ensuring that all participants receive tailored support and resources to enhance their capabilities and improve their livelihoods. By fostering partnerships and implementing targeted projects like the ‘Chilli Pepper 🌶 Value Chain (Production),’ GYIN Gambia continues to drive positive change and promote sustainable development in The Gambia.
