Food Processing Training GYIN

The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter, in collaboration with the Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training, and Reintegration (GGAC), successfully concluded a five-day training programme on packaging and labeling of agro-products. Held from the 26th to the 31st of January 2024 in Soma, the training aimed to equip 25 women, youth, and returnee migrants with essential skills to enhance the marketability of their agro-products.

Organized within the framework of the joint activity titled “Agro-Food Processing and Digital Skills for Income Generation,” the training was designed to create market linkages for beneficiaries and provide them with a sustainable source of income while addressing evolving consumer preferences.

The initiative, part of the broader Global Programme Centres for Migration and Development (ZME) commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), underscores a commitment to fostering economic empowerment and facilitating the successful reintegration of returnee migrants into their communities. Implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment (MoTIE) in The Gambia, the “ZME/GGAC” project aims to create an enabling environment for entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.

Through practical workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions, participants were introduced to best practices in packaging and labeling techniques tailored to agro-products. By enhancing the visual appeal and marketability of their products, beneficiaries are better positioned to access broader markets, increase their sales, and generate higher incomes.

The successful conclusion of this training program marks a significant milestone in GYIN Gambia’s efforts to empower youth, women, and returnee migrants in the agricultural sector. As beneficiaries return to their respective communities equipped with newfound skills and knowledge, they are poised to contribute to the growth and development of The Gambia’s agro-processing industry.

GYIN Gambia extends its appreciation to GGAC, the trainers, and all stakeholders for their invaluable support in making this training programme a success. The organization remains committed to providing continued support and opportunities for youth and women entrepreneurs to thrive in the agricultural sector.
