Two members of GYIN Gambia Chapter, Ebrima Ceesay and Jam Ndong, on 14th August, 2024 were nominated to take part in a day long consultative session on land policy in The Gambia.

The workshop, which was organized by the Ministry of Lands in partnership with the National Youth Council (NYC), brought together representatives from youth groups, estate agencies among other stakeholders to discuss on land related issues.

The workshop was conducted in three phases with different presenters from the Ministry of Local Government and Lands, Ministry of Public Policy and Services as well as the Ministry of Justice.

The topics discussed include Land tenure systems, Land Use and Management, Policy and Legal Issues surrounding Land and among others.

The floor was later open for suggestions, contributions and the way forward for the draft land policy where the youth of Greater Banjul Area made significant contributions.

Of recent, there has been a lot of talk about land problems in The Gambia. This challenge is from the level of the alkalolu to the level of the Ministry of Lands and how the duo goes about distributing or selling lands. It is necessary to put measures in place that will make land distribution transparent so as to avoid misunderstandings.
