In a bid to create another marketing avenue for Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs), the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter has mounted a shelve at its secretariat to display Made in The Gambia Products.

The Made in The Gambia Shelve is an income generation for SMEs that are members of the network whereby their products will be displayed and have regular digital market thus boosting their market. This also serves as a long-term business growth, and creating more and better sales for the SMEs.

SMEs are vital to economic growth and yet still they face financing and marketing gaps that hinder their growth, productivity, and resilience.

At GYIN Gambia, the programs and projects are all aligned to promote market linkages and strengthening the entrepreneurial skills of women, youth, returnee migrants and improve their economic status through our trainings, coaching and mentoring, business advisory services and career guidance and counselling. The network for the past years, has contributed to improve the livelihood opportunities and skills of women, youth, and returnee migrants.

The Made in The Gambia Shelve idea came after several trainings organised by the network and its partners and donors on Agri-Food Projects specifically looks into Made in The Gambia Products in the Agricultural Value Chain.

Notably, GYIN Gambia’s eight-month long project title “Foster Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Returnees and Host Communities in Rural Areas”. The Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training, and Reintegration (GGAC) funded the project. The center provides advice and training for job seekers and returnees alike. These services are part of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s support for voluntary return and sustainable reintegration, which aims to improve the social and economic prospects of returnees and the local population in 12 partner countries. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH operates the GGAC.

The eight-month project provided 174 beneficiaries with the entrepreneurial skills and soft skills, reorientation and services support for returnees and their host communities and in particular youth and women were strengthen through setting up and running of own enterprises.

GYIN Gambia Chapter, in collaboration with the Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training, and Reintegration (GGAC), training programme on packaging and labeling of agro-products for 25 women, youth, and returnee migrants with essential skills to enhance the marketability of their agro-products.

Organized within the framework of the joint activity titled “Agro-Food Processing and Digital Skills for Income Generation,” the training was designed to create market linkages for beneficiaries and provide them with a sustainable source of income while addressing evolving consumer preferences.

The initiative was part of the broader Global Programme Centres for Migration and Development (ZME) commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), underscores a commitment to fostering economic empowerment and facilitating the successful reintegration of returnee migrants into their communities. Implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment (MoTIE) in The Gambia, the “ZME/GGAC” project aims to create an enabling environment for entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.

GYIN Gambia Chapter partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in Canada four-month project titled “Chilli Pepper Value Chain (Production).” This initiative was specifically designed to empower returnee migrants, women, and youth farmers across the country.

GYIN Gambia Chapter contract agreement with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in Canada to support 3,000 farmers in the Maize Value Chain across The Gambia for three (3) months (September – November) of the project implementation.

Entrepreneurs registered with GYIN Gambia will now have their Made in The Gambia Products sold in GYIN Gambia Secretariat at no charges/cost and customers will directly pay to the business owners account using online digital payment systems.
