The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter, represented by Ms. Jainaba Njie, Programme Officer, had the honor of participating in the launch event of the Media Academy for Journalism and Communication (MAJaC) and the Gambia Media Support (GAMES) project titled ‘Unlock Potentials to Combat Irregular Migration (UPCIM)’.
According to MAJaC’s Facebook page, the UPCIM project aims to tackle the root causes of irregular migration, including unemployment, underemployment, and hopelessness among Gambian youth. It endeavors to equip youth with media-related skills for employment and entrepreneurship, thereby addressing migration challenges.
Under this initiative, forty-eight Gambian youths are set to undergo an intensive nine-month training program encompassing Film & Photography, Communication, and Digital Media Production & Management. This comprehensive training will empower them with the necessary skills to either establish their own businesses or secure meaningful employment opportunities.
To ensure the successful implementation of the project, MAJaC will develop a tailored curriculum focusing on Film & Photography, Communication, and Digital Media Production & Management, in addition to its flagship journalism program. Moreover, MAJaC will lead and coordinate a Civil Society Organization (CSO) Coalition to raise awareness about often overlooked opportunities within The Gambia.
The participation of GYIN Gambia Chapter in the launching event underscores its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at empowering youth and addressing socio-economic challenges, including irregular migration. By engaging in collaborative efforts such as the UPCIM project, GYIN Gambia continues to play a pivotal role in fostering youth development and entrepreneurship in The Gambia.
