Bijilo, The Gambia – September 20, 2024: The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN Gambia Chapter) on 9th September 2024 signed another contract agreement with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in Canada to support 3,000 farmers in the Maize Value Chain across The Gambia looking at poultry feed productions.
This second project was endorsed after the successful implementation of the initial project which was on Chili Pepper Value Chain Project targeting 2,000 farmers.
For the 3 months (September – November) of the project implementation, GYIN Gambia and COL will work together to develop training materials and train farmers within the Learning, Innovative and Development Platforms (LINDEP). These activities aim to strengthen the capacities of maize-producing farmers to increase maize productivity and change discriminatory social norms through community mobilisation. These activities have been planned to consolidate ongoing programmes.
As part of this project, GYIN Gambia will profile 3,000 farmers, including their demographic and socio-economic data, and form them into a Learning, Innovative and Development Platforms (LINDEP).
GYIN Gambia will also create educational materials, including short videos and written content, on maize production, group management, and the importance of by-laws to be shared in LINDEP via their WhatsApp groups.
Furthermore, the network will develop training materials and train farmers within the LINDEP platforms.
These activities are aimed at strengthening the capacities of maize-producing farmers to increase maize productivity and change discriminatory social norms through community mobilisation.
The collaboration between GYIN Gambia and the Commonwealth of Learning underscores a shared commitment to promoting agricultural development and empowering farmers, particularly Returnee Migrants, Women, and Youth, who play a crucial role in driving rural transformation and sustainable development.
