The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter today, 28th March 2019 received a delegation from Drammeh Mentorship and Leadership Academy (DMLA) to discuss partnership agreement on common thematic areas between the two parties.
The meeting, held at the GYIN Gambia secretariat in Churchill’s Town, was triggered by DMLA’s interest in building partnership with GYIN.
Speaking at the meeting, the pioneer and leader of the Academy, Mr Alagie Drammeh said the DMLA is a non-political and non-profit body that is specifically designed to support and encourage young people to manage their own learning in order to maximize their potentials, develop their skills and improve their performances.
The academy, he added, focuses on developing the country’s human capital and playing positive roles to ensure that the youth are equipped with relevant skills and knowledge.
“We also do mentoring on food processing to put an end to fruit spoilage in The Gambia,” Drammeh explained.
For his part, the GYIN Gambia Executive Director, Mamadou Edrisa Njie commended the DMLA for inspiring young people and coming up with such an initiative to contributing to the reduction of youth unemployment in the country.
He further dilated on GYIN Gambia’s annual programs ranging from the Rural Youth Awards (RYAs), Entrepreneurship Leadership Information and Technology (ELIT) National Summer Camp as well as the Youth Mentorship Program.
He said mentorship is a common initiative that the two parties have in common.
Njie invited the DMLA leader to be among the speakers at the upcoming RYAs 2019 side events and in the same vein prepare videos of their successful mentees which will be featured at the awards night.
The meeting was chaired by the GYIN Gambia head of programmes, Jainaba Manjang.
Other speakers included three of the mentees who shared their success stories during the DMLA mentorship programme.
