Yundum, The Gambia – 26 September 2024 – A productive meeting took place today, 26th September, 2024 between the GYIN Gambia Chapter and GamHolland Havens Feed to explore potential collaborations within the Maize Project. The primary focus of the discussion was on establishing a partnership that connects local maize farmers with buyers, aiming to create opportunities for long-term cooperation and mutual growth.
The goal of the meeting was to lay the groundwork for a collaboration that will facilitate communication between farmers and buyers, ensuring both sides benefit from stable and sustainable agreements. GYIN Gambia will take on the role of coordinating and facilitating this process, bringing stakeholders together to create a transparent and efficient system for cooperation.
Mamadou Edrisa Njie, Founder and Exeuctive Director of GYIN Gambia, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to mobilising farmers and fostering connections with buyers, emphasising the importance of collaboration for the success of such initiatives. “Our role is to facilitate and coordinate, ensuring that this partnership offers valuable opportunities for both farmers and buyers,” Njie said.
The Maize Project is of particular relevance, as maize accounts for 70% of poultry feed requirements. The initiative aims to encourage local maize production and form partnerships that will support the development of The Gambia’s agricultural sector.
During the meeting, Assan Secka, Managing Director of GamHolland Havens Feed, noted, “We want to support local farmers by purchasing from them,” as part of the company’s efforts to strengthen the local supply chain.
This meeting marked an important step toward the development of a cooperative framework, connecting farmers, buyers, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable growth in Gambian agriculture.
