In an era driven by technology and connectivity, digital literacy has become a fundamental skill for success. Today, on the 2nd of May 2023, GYIN Gambia embarked on a transformative journey by commencing a month-long Digital Literacy Session. This initiative targets 200 returnees, women, and youth in the Greater Banjul Area/West Coast Region (GBA/WCR), Lower River Region (LRR), and Upper River Region (URR).

The Digital Literacy Sessions and Information Support Services represent a critical step in equipping entrepreneurs with the essential skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital age. These sessions are especially vital for those engaged in agro-marketing, branding, labeling, and advertisement, as they enable them to penetrate national, regional, and international markets using technology as a powerful tool.

The Digital Literacy Sessions encompass a range of key topics, including:

1. Training on Zoom Conferences, Google Teams & WhatsApp: These platforms have become integral for remote communication and collaboration. The training equips participants with the ability to navigate and leverage these tools effectively.

2. Training on Creating Email Addresses and Social Media Accounts: A strong online presence is essential for businesses today. Participants are guided on creating and managing email accounts and social media profiles to enhance their digital footprint.

The sessions are being conducted at GYIN Gambia’s regional hubs, strategically located in the Lower River Region (LRR), Upper River Region (URR), and Greater Banjul Area (GBA)/West Coast Region (WCR). This ensures accessibility and convenience for participants from various regions.

These Digital Literacy Sessions are an integral part of GYIN’s ambitious eight-month-long project titled “Foster Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Returnees and Host Communities in Rural Areas.” The project is funded by the Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training, and Reintegration (GGAC). This center plays a pivotal role in providing advice and training for job seekers and returnees alike.

The GGAC’s mission aligns with the goals of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, which supports voluntary return and sustainable reintegration in partner countries. The aim is to improve the social and economic prospects of returnees and local populations. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH operates the GGAC, driving positive change in partnership with organizations like GYIN Gambia.

As we embark on this journey of digital empowerment, we are confident that these Digital Literacy Sessions will not only bridge the digital divide but also unlock new opportunities for entrepreneurs to thrive in the digital landscape. By enhancing their digital skills, we are paving the way for economic growth, market expansion, and sustainable development.
