In a collaborative effort to foster growth, innovation, and empowerment, GYIN Gambia Chapter met with the School of Agriculture Student’s Association (SASA) on the 10th of October 2023. This meeting marked the beginning of a promising partnership that holds the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of young individuals pursuing agricultural studies.
SASA’s Vision and Aspirations
Led by the dedicated Fatoumatta Gassama, President of the School of Agriculture, SASA comprises 11 passionate executives who share a common goal: to seek partnerships and support for the betterment of youth in agriculture. They understand the importance of paving the way for students to excel in their academic and professional pursuits. One of the pressing challenges they aim to address is the difficulty many students face in acquiring employment after their studies. SASA sees it as their duty to create opportunities and seek avenues for youth to thrive in the agricultural sector.
The Power of Partnership
SASA has ambitious projects on its agenda, including ventures into Agro-Forestry, Vegetable Production, and a significant emphasis on food processing. However, paying tuition fees can be a hurdle for students. Thus, they have a sustainable vision for long-term growth and stability.
Partnering with GYIN Gambia Chapter would prove immensely beneficial for SASA. The partnership would provide access to expertise, resources and knowledge. GYIN Gambia Chapter can play a pivotal role in offering advice, partnerships and assistance in their various projects.
GYIN Gambia Chapter’s Commitment
GYIN Gambia Chapter has expressed a keen interest in partnering with SASA and is open and ready for collaboration. Some of the training topics GYIN Gambia Chapter offers include becoming a Trainer, Coach, or Mentor, Business Formalization, Founding Business, and other training programs such as Food Processing, Packaging and Labelling and Entrepreneurship.
A Shared Vision for Progress
Together, SASA and GYIN Gambia Chapter aim to enhance student development through a combination of practical and theoretical training. Topics like Food Processing and Entrepreneurship will be central to these initiatives. The ultimate goal is to boost employment opportunities in The Gambia, enhance food security, and strengthen the foundations of business in the agricultural sector.
SASA initiated SASA-Day in 2022, a platform for students of agriculture to come together for seminars, cultural events, interactions, and discussions. They plan to invite external stakeholders to join in the conversation, reflecting on agriculture and inspiring young minds. GYIN Gambia Chapter is excited to participate in this event and collaborate on program plans and product showcases.
As part of their action plan, SASA will share a Work Plan and Calendar for 2024. Additionally, they aspire to become official mentors, trainers, and coaches. GYIN Gambia Chapter is committed to providing advice and support throughout this journey.
In the spirit of partnership, SASA and GYIN Gambia Chapter are set to embark on a transformative journey to empower youth, elevate agriculture, and create a brighter future for all. As the year unfolds, we anticipate planning progress and impactful collaborations in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates as we work together to make a difference!
