Muhammed S. Juwara, a Poultry Farmer from Bora Kanda Kasse in the Upper River Region and winner of GYIN Gambia’s Rural Youth Awards 2019 on Best Emerging Business of the Year 2019 on Tuesday, 25th June, 2019 received his first disbursement.
The rural youth awards categories were fully funded by the Building Resilience for Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2RS) to the tune of D35,000.00 for each awardee to support their businesses.
With the support of the P2RS Project, young people are today making waves in the agricultural sector.
Upon certifying the winners during the award competition, GYIN Gambia has started paying D25,000.00 as first disbursement.
As part of his first disbursement, the office presented his Award prize worth of items which include one hundred broiler birds and some bags of chicken feed with a sum of D6,000 for the construction of his poultry house.
During the presentation, Mr. Juwara thanked the P2RS Project for fully financing GYIN Gambia’s Rural Youth Awards 2019, saying that winning the award has changed his live in the community.
“After winning the award, my family joins me to celebrate the award and today, they’ve recognized my efforts than before winning the award.”
Mr. Juwara said his efforts to become the biggest poultry farmer in the Upper River Region will soon be achieve, saying that “with the help of Allah (S.W.T), I’m optimistic that the future is bright.”
According to Juwara, a good number of youngster in his region needs support and calls on the government and development partners to come to their aid.
He also commended GYIN Gambia for the ‘great’ work they are doing in the country with special attention on rural youths.
Mr. Juwara is an Alumni of GYIN Gambia’s Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Information and Technology (ELIT 2017) National Youth Summer Camp.
The ELIT National Youth Summer Camp was also partly funded by the P2RS project and the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP).
Before winning the Award Category, he wanted to expand his business by building a poultry house and buy more birds to be able to meet the demand for meat in his region.
Speaking that the ceremony, held at Kombo Poultry, Mamadou Edrisa Njie, executive director of GYIN Gambia acknowledged the hard work of Mr. Juwara saying that Mr. Juwara is counted among the hard working youth in his region.
GYIN Gambia’s boss further commended the P2RS project for support this year’s Rural Youth Awards 2019 categories while calling on them to continue supporting the awards.
According to Njie, the Rural Youth Awards, are initiative that can address unemployment in the country. He stated that the award recognized the efforts and celebrate the successes of rural youth in agriculture.
He thanked Kombo Poultry for been a good Service Provider while recalling that last year, it was the same Kombo Poultry that served as the Service Provider.
