Preparations are at high gears at the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia secretariat for the coordination and organization of its upcoming Rural Youth Awards 2019 with hashtag #GYINGambiaRYA2019.
This year’s RYAs, which is the third edition on the theme: “Discovering Rural Value Chain by Putting Young People in Agricultural Value Addition”, is slated to take place on 25th– 27th April 2019, at Wuli West in the Upper River Region.
The overall aim of this Rural Youth Award 2019 (#GYINGambiaRYA2019) is to create rural enterprises, promote and elevate successful young entrepreneurs’ to innovate thinking by channeling their creativities, energies and passion to contribute in making a change in their communities and societies and are ready to serve as role models or champions for other rural youths.
The RYA, as the name depicts, is annually organized to celebrate and recognize the successes of the rural youth whose achievements are not known and recognized by the wider society. Therefore, it is designed to celebrate their achievements in entrepreneurship and agribusiness and to provide some financial support to deserving rural youths.
As part the award preparations, GYIN Gambia has set up a 5-man committee who will be responsible for the facilitation and coordination of the award night alongside other planned event, which includes Entrepreneurship Training & Career Fair, Spotlight on Young Entrepreneurs and GYIN Gambia Alumni Exchange Lunch.
The 2019 RYAs will be celebrated with a difference as GYIN Gambia intends to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship in the minds of rural youths through organizing a programme called “HOW TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR WITH A MENTOR.”
This programme is meant to create awareness on entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership throughout rural regions, thus celebrating business ideas and startups.
The award committee members include: Sarjo Jarju- Chairperson, Hagi Bajaha, Deputy Chairperson, Fatou Dahaba-Public Relations Officer, Fatou Colley-Financial Controller, and Hawa Singateh-Secretary.
After the inauguration of the award committee, a courtesy visit was paid to the National Youth Council (NYC) to discuss pertinent issues on the hosting of the award ceremony and to introduce the committee members to the council as the umbrella body of all youth organisations operating in the country.
The committee has also established a sub-regional committee in URR headed by Mariama Krubally, a member of the GYIN Gambia regional chapter for the successful hosting of the award.
Distribution of letters to the URR Governor and its Technical Advisory Committee is the latest move of the award committee for the ground preparations.
