Omar Fadara, a 32-year-old youth from Brikama Jidda, West Coast Region has demonstrated his passion for Agro-Tech by wielding different handmade tools to entice the users.

After spending over 13 years learning wielding, Fadera graduated from being an apprentice to a fulltime professional workspace owner.

He told GYIN Gambia Media Unit, that his farm implements are super beneficial to farmers and the society.

Fadera makes door, hoe, tank and other handmade tools for agricultural purpose and household use.

Recently, he made an attractive metal tank meant for digging of well and borehole to level the wall sides.

“The tank is use for concreting the wall of the well and borehole side to avoid the well from falling down and having small holes,” he explained, noting that tank makes water well to last for decades.

At his wielding workshop, he said, he has some youths working under him to learn skills.

The passionate wielder further lamented that he has never benefited from any entrepreneurship training apart from the GYIN Gambia’s Rural Youth Award 2019 Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Training.

During this year’s third edition of the Rural Youth Award, Federa applied for the ‘Young Agro-Tech of the Year 2019’ award category but unfortunately he did not win.

However, being one of the nominees of the award did not stop from furthering his profession in the wielding industry.

The award recognizes and celebrates the achievements of rural youths in entrepreneurship and agribusiness thus providing some financial support to deserving rural youths.

According to him, he was able to establish his own workplace through sponsorship from his family and friends.

His current challenge is marketing of his farm implements, which he said, is frustrating his efforts.
